With ministers planning to roll out a 1.25% National Insurance increase while freezing the income tax allowance and removing the £20-a-week Universal Credit uplift, Sir Keir said: “The Government’s acting as if there’s no alternative here. They’re hammering working people and we say it should be those with the broadest shoulders, who should pay their fair share.” Meanwhile, Mr Starmer’s deputy Angela Rayner has hit out at Government plans, saying: “Our key worker heroes need a pay rise, not a tax rise.”
